What is the EdLight Summer Leadership Program

In August 2022, EdLight launched the EdLight Summer Leadership Program (ESLP), a summer program for students between 15 and 18 years old to empower their leadership skills and learn from multiple subjects.

The idea came from the fact that no proper programs in

Haiti bring students in to reflect on some of the global and local issues they are aware of. By doing so, we have created a viable space where students are introduced to concepts and practices that will help make them better future citizens. In addition, we have had several prominent speakers from leading organizations and institutions (Harvard, Microsoft, Deutsche Bank, MIT) who joined the Program the last summer.

Curriculum

The ESLP 2022 and 2023 curricula focused on these main topics: Personal Discovery, Professional Orientation, College Admissions and Scholarships, Finance, and Entrepreneurship. We divide them

into the first two, and the last two between the first and second week respectively. For each section, we invited speakers with expertise in those particular fields to speak with the students and

respond to questions they may have.

At the same time, we tasked the participants to form teams of 4 or 5 to work on a project targeting a special need within their community. We matched each team with a team leader who had tremendous experience in the field of entrepreneurship and project development to guide the

students in preparing their presentations for the final day.

During the two-week program, we offer participants a comprehensive view of the world. They will have the opportunity to acquire skills in entrepreneurship, personal finance, leadership, health and well-being, citizenship, the environment, technology, and more. They will also learn about scholarship opportunities to study abroad in various countries around the world (USA, Canada, France, Taiwan, Morocco, etc.). To ensure high-quality content for our participants, our speakers and presenters come from the best institutions and organizations in the world (mainly from the United States), such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cornell University, Deutsche Bank, etc.
